Our Process

At Neptune’s Treasures, every fish mount is handcrafted with care and over 57 years of expertise. Each piece is made to last, capturing the lifelike detail of your catch — whether it’s a memory from last weekend or a trophy from years ago.

We start with one of our many in-stock fibreglass moulds — part of the largest fish mould collection in the Southern Hemisphere. Once your species is selected, we begin the casting process:
  • Multiple layers of fibreglass are applied to the mould to create a strong, long-lasting base.
  • After curing, the fibreglass is carefully cut out and trimmed, and any mould imperfections are repaired by hand.
  • We then move into the shaping phase, where we may add extra details like a mouth, fins, or other species-specific features from separate moulds for enhanced realism.
  • High-quality glass or flexiglass eyes are installed to bring the fish to life.
  • All components are joined together seamlessly to achieve a realistic form and flow.
Once the structure is complete, our airbrushing process begins.
  • The fish is hand airbrushed based on your reference photo or natural species colour and patterns.
  • Fine details are hand-painted to ensure an accurate, lifelike result.
  • After painting, each mount is cured and sealed with high quality 2-pac.
This is a fully handcrafted process, and each of item we create are a one-of-a-kind, museum-quality piece made just for you.

Split Mount vs Full Mount: What’s the Difference?
At Neptune’s Treasures, we offer both split mounts and full mounts to suit different display preferences, spaces, and budgets. Here's a quick guide to help you choose the right style for your fish.

 Split Mount (Flat-Backed Mount)
A split mount features the front half of the fish, with a smooth, flat back designed to sit almost flush against the wall. It's lightweight and space-efficient, making it a great option for home walls, offices, or trophy.

         Key Features:
  • More affordable than full mounts
  • Designed to hang almost flat on a wall
  • One bottom fin
  • Hand-painted with full detail on the front
  • Ideal for indoor spaces with limited depth

Full Mount (Nearly 360-Degree Mount)

A full mount is a more detailed, three-dimensional replica that includes the full body shape of the fish. While it still mounts to a wall, it has a fully shaped body and mouth pallet details with realistic features all the way around.

         Key Features:
  • Complete body shape, visible from multiple angles
  • Still designed for wall mounting, but with added depth
  • Two bottom fins
  • Customisable with driftwood or stand options for an extra fee
  • Higher cost due to added materials and significant detailing involved
